REGISTRATION

Teams can register on Friday evening from 5:30-6:30 pm or Saturday morning from 7:00-7:30 am.  Registration will take place in the lobby of the D.P. Corbett Business Building.  The team packet will contain your holding room assignment, changes to the schedule, and name tags for team members and managers.  Teams may bring props into the holding rooms starting at 7:00 am on Saturday morning.  Name tags must be worn all day (except during the Central Challenge presentation and team photographs).  Be sure that the team members’ names are spelled correctly on the registration form.  Information about your team volunteer’s assignment will also be provided, if it has not been received prior to the celebration.

CLOSING CEREMONY

The Closing Ceremony will be held in the Alfond Arena.  It will begin around 5:00 pm DI TIME, which means as soon as all the competitions have finished and the scores are tallied.  PLEASE do not leave the Closing Ceremony until ALL awards have been presented.  BE AWARE THAT THE TEAM MANAGERS OF TEAMS ADVANCING TO GLOBAL FINALS WILL MEET IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CLOSING CEREMONY!

FORMS TO BRING

Team managers should be sure that team members bring copies of all required forms to the Celebration.  Please keep copies for yourselves.  You may need a set if the team advances to Global Finals!

Required Paperwork:

2 copies of the Declaration of Independence:  see Rules of the Road

1 copy of the Expense Report:  see Rules of the Road

5 copies of the Tournament Data Form:  see your challenge

Team Sign:  see your challenge and Rules of the Road

Team Clarifications:  one copy of any that your team may have received

PARKING

Buses should park in the Maine Center for the Arts parking area.  Other vehicles can use any parking lot on campus, but please park in marked spaces.  Campus Police have been notified not to ticket vehicles parked LEGALLY on campus for the day.

APPRAISERS

We have done our best to recruit Appraisers from all regions of the state and with as much celebration experience as possible.  Please remember that all Appraisers are volunteering their time!

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer assignments for the State Celebration may be available prior to the State Celebration.  If not, please check with the people at the registration desk in the lobby of the D.P. Corbett Business Building before Opening Ceremonies.

SCORING

Team managers must be available to see the Challenge Master to collect the team’s raw scores.  Please make yourself known to the Challenge Master after a notice is posted that your team’s raw scores are ready.  Should a team manager need to question a non-subjective call, he or she must register the concern within thirty minutes of receiving the raw score.  If you have a concern about the team’s score, you must fill out the Request for Challenge Intervention Form.  The Challenge Master will take you through the process.  You are both an advocate and a model for your team.  Please do both in a constructive manner.

TEAM MANAGER AND TEAM CONDUCT

Team managers are responsible for the conduct of their team members throughout the celebration.  ADULTS SHOULD BE WITH THE STUDENTS AT ALL TIMES.  If the team wishes to split up to participate in different activities on campus, an adult supervisor must be with each group.  Team managers are reminded that the goal of DI is to learn and have fun.  Don’t let your competitive zeal override that goal.  Team managers and team members must wear their nametags at all times.  Please be sure that members CLEAN UP any area that they’ve used and that they WALK inside the buildings.

SAFETY AND DAMAGES

Please do not bring any latex products to the tournament.  We may have participants who are allergic to this material.  And please be aware that if any damage occurs to the facility being used by your team, the team will receive penalty points and will have to pay for the damage.  A discussion of this should be held with all team members, team managers, family members and friends prior to the Celebration.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT

First Aid Kits are available at all competition sites.  For more serious emergencies, call 911 immediately.  Please have all team members provide a signed medical release to be kept by team managers in case of such an emergency (included in this packet).

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Because the University of Maine facility is committed to other groups in the weeks that follow the State Celebration, we will not have a snow date.  If a storm is expected, it is the responsibility of the Team Manager and parents to make the decision about if it is safe to travel or not.

SOUVENIRS

DI shirts, hats, pins and trinkets will be on sale in the lobby of D.P. Corbett Business Building.  All proceeds will go to support CreateME in its effort to provide quality trainings, workshops and Celebrations for Maine’s creative children.

TEAM PHOTOGRAPHS

State Celebration teams have the opportunity again this year to purchase team photographs.  Money and orders should be collected by the team manager and brought to the photo site by the team manager following the team’s Instant Challenge.  ALL TEAMS SHOULD HAVE THEIR PICTURE TAKEN, EVEN IF NO ONE IS PURCHASING PICTURES.  An album is complied of all teams participating in the Celebration and we want every team represented!  Click here to download the order form.

GLOBAL FINALS

Teams that receive First Place in each challenge and level will advance to the Globals Finals Celebration held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville at the end of May.  One Wild Card team will advance to Global Finals as well.  The Wild Card team will be the second place team in the Challenge and Level with the highest number of competing teams.  A brief meeting for these TEAM MANAGERS will take place immediately following closing ceremonies.

Wild Card Team Tie!

Each year we invite one second place team from State Celebration to join us at Global Finals.  This team is from the Challenge and Level that has the highest number of teams in the state.
This year we've had a tie.  Our Wild Card teams are DI've Got a Secret, Elementary Level and Hit or Myth, Elementary Level!

FINAL NOTE

We have tried to provide you with as much information about the celebration as possible to make the day a rewarding and fun experience for all.  Please be aware, though, that sometimes changes may happen at the last minute.  Please talk with your team about how they will problem-solve unexpected situations.
